We’re waiting to see how the late absentee ballots affect the final results of our race, but one thing's for certain. The work doesn’t stop here. Regardless of the final results from the vote, I’ll continue fighting for a safe, healthy, prosperous future for everyone in our community as I’ve done for the past 20+ years.
I wanted to give a huge shout out to all who walked or called for us, who donated money or time. So often I’ve found myself humbled and buoyed by the generosity of our community in such difficult times, and this race was no exception. You inspire me.
I want to recognize the long hours and loving commitment of my husband Jaimey Walking Bear in our journey over the last 15 months. I could not have given my time and spirit to the community over the last four years without his patience and support.
As we wait for the thousands of votes yet to be counted, I am taking stock of what the impacts of the local elections will be on the community. Superstorm Sandy has deepened my commitment to address climate change with urgency as I have begun working with students, water consultants, engineers and local environmental groups to take on the task of weighing in on a Petaluma stormwater utility policy. As our future is tied to sea level rise, we must face these issues head on with honest assessments of climate change impacts.
Both our council and congressional campaigns carry a debt. Please help us retire these debts so we can move forward in our next steps.
